NYChinatown.com
was the New York's first major internet guide to China
and all things Chinese, and is established as New York's
premiere site on all things Chinese. This unique web
site is a huge resource featuring hundreds of web pages
covering everything from chop suey to feng shui, tai chi
to Taiwan, Mao to Macau, Kung Fu to tofu.
Chinatown
Online offers an unparalleled opportunity to reach a
very targeted niche market: there is certainly no web
site in US with comparable breadth of coverage, quality
of content or attention to accuracy and detail.
History
Launched on the 8th of August 1998, NYChinatown.com
is the most comprehensive internet guide to any overseas
Chinese community in the world. NYChinatown.com grew out
of an original idea to create a guide to restaurants in
New York's Chinatown, but it soon became very apparent
that Chinatown was more than a collection of
restaurants- indeed it's probably fair to say it is the
cultural heart of the Chinese community in US.
The
scope of NYChinatown.com quickly spread to encompass
fifteen key areas: Arts
& Humanities,
Business & Economy, Chinatown,
Computers & Internet,
Education, Entertainment, Health, News
& Media, Recreation & Sports,
Reference. Regional
, Science,
Service Social
Science, Society & Culture.
The underpinning principle was to provide quality
information alongside good design whilst being
non-political, non-religious and non-partisan. Input was
received from the China National Tourist Office, the
Taiwan Representative Office, the Hong Kong Tourist
Association and China Travel Service. NYChinatown.com
received critical acclaim on its launch from both the
mainstream and internet media. Among others, NYChinatown.com
has been featured in the Daily Telegraph, Internet
Magazine, Exposure Magazine and Personal Computer
Weekly; on Sky TV; and cv Online, Yell, Cool Sites and
UK Plus. An extensive network of links has been
established from sites as diverse as Shanghai On
Internet and the American Museum of Women. NYChinatown.com
is an approved web site of the official China in US
Campaign.
As
visitors to NYChinatown.com have burgeoned new sections
and features have been added to keep the site dynamic
and relevant- these include a searchable online database
of Chinese businesses in New York, internet news, a
discussion forum, Chinatown directory and a Community
section, still in development, geared towards the needs
of the US Chinese- while regularly updating the existing
material to ensure freshness of the visitor's
experience.
