The Great Leap Foward. It's goal was to accomplish the economic and technical development by placing all control on individual communes, making them self-supporting. The Great Leap Forward was a failure and ended in 1960. As a result Chairman Mao stepped down as the Chairman of the People's Republic of China. I think that Mao Tse-Tung is important because he fought for the poor and believed in "sharing" within a country. While his idea was brilliant, it wasn't ideal for such a large country and therefore many criticize what Mao-Tse Tung stood for and believed. |
