The historical richness of China nation has produced numerous traditional festivals that form an important component of Chinese culture. Every festival has its own distinct genesis and story - suicidal poets and cosmic shepherds become heroes! Something that all of the stories reflect and the festivals celebrate is the desire for good fortune and happiness.
Festivals also echo China's agricultural background. The main festivals of Chinese New Year, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival and the Winter Solstice are spread over the four seasons to mark the passage of time. Lifestyles have changed enormously in modern China, but festivals are still a rare opportunity for relaxation for a traditionally hardworking population.
