Yunnan, named in Chinese for short as "Dian", is located at the southwest part of China. It is closed to Myanmar, Lao and Vietnam. The total area is 394 thousand square kilometers. It has the population at the number of more than 40 million, with 25 kinds of minorities of total 56 in whole China. There are more than 25 million Han nation among them, taking percentage of 66.8.

Kunming is the capital of Yunnan province. It has got its name of "Spring City" by its weather like spring all year around.

Yunnan is named a plateau and mountain province with landforms of higher in direction of northwest and lower in southeast. The average sea level is 2000 meters high, the highest point in Lijiang about 6740 meters. With the rich of natural resources, like mineral deposits, forests and animals, it is well known by the other name of Kingdom of non-ferrous metal, plants and animals. Otherwise the Many Rivers are flowing in Yunnan like the Nujiang River, Lanchanjiang River, Jinshajiang River and Honghe River. These rivers are quite suitable for power station build-up with their deep and quick flowing water. There are 40 lakes, total water area reaches up 9000 square kilometers, in Yunnan, and they look mostly very beautiful for their clean water. Like the famous Dianchi lake is located in Kunming.

Owing to Yunnan’s special landforms, it shows the three of sorts of climates, the tropics, subtropics and temperate zones. A saying "There are four seasons around the mountain and different weather away 10 kilometers." Which forms the " Rich weather in Yunnan" so it is an ideal place for tourism. It is attractive also for its different woods and flowers and animals, among them many are the rare ones in the world. The tobacco, tea, natural rubber, sugar cane, flowers and medicine drugs become the powerful economical supports in Yunnan. Such as the Indian azalea, it has more than 300 kinds of breeds in Yunnan. The provincial flower "Camellia" has nearly 100 breeds. In 1999 the International Horticultural Exposition was held in Kunming. It contributes the more beautiful senses to Yunnan again. Brief Yunnan History

"Yunnan”, in Chinese, means "Southern Clouds".  With the different explanations, it mostly is agreed with the "Colorful clouds are appeared at the south direction" as its sayings. Yunnan is the one of human cradles in the world history. The Yuanmou ape-man fossil discovered in Yuanmou county of Yunnan is the year of 1.7 million ago and the forefather of Chinese people. During the periods of Xia-Shang ages, it was called "south-west Yi (Nation)". The third century B.C. a general, Zhuan Qiao from Chu state of ancient China, came to Yunnan and established the "Yunnan State". The Tang and Song Dynasties (year of 738-902) founded the "Dali State" (Dali county of Yunnan far from Kunming 500 KM), the other well -known name of "Nan Zhao State”. By the year of 1276 the political center of Yunnan was moved from Dali to Kunming. After 1911 the all-political system administrations founded in Yunnan, Kunming was taken as the official capital of Yunnan. On Dec. 9^th 1949, the governor of Yunnan, Lu Han, revolted and got the result of peaceful liberation in Yunnan. Therefore, Yunnan government was founded officially up in March of 1950.
