Unearthed at Zhengzhou, Henan

Height: 20cm

This jar is used for drinking wine. Two people, each holding one side of the jar, would drink simultaneously. This custom still exists in certain minorities today, symbolizing friendship, unity and love.

Mouth diameter: 22cm

The Ding is a kind of food vessels. It is painted with such colors as red, yellow and white, which makes the Ding gorgeous in color.

Unearthed at Sanmenxia, Henan

Mouth diameter: 34cm

The Yan is a steamer. It has paunchier legs which can be filled with water and its upper part is like that of a Ding, food vessel. A rack is affixed to the base of this section so that it can hold the food to be steamed.

Toad tree is a divine tree in Chinese myths and it is used for driving evil spirits . The tree is often decorated with such images as cock, birds, monkeys, cicadas and naked persons, etc

Han Dynasty 206B.C.-220A.D.

Unearthed at Lingbao, Henan

Liubo, a popular game in the Warring States period and the Han Dynasty, got its name because six chopsticks were used in the game. It was played by two persons, each with six pieces. During the game, chopsticks would be tossed first, and then the pieces would be moved according to the result of the tossing of chopsticks. The goal was to take away all the six pieces from the opponent eventually.

Northern Qi DynastyA.D.550-557

Unearthed at Anyang, Henan

Mouth diameter: 6cm

The body of the ewer is decorated with a dancing scene. A single male dancer in the middle is performing Huteng dance and three persons are accompanying with musical instruments. Huteng dance belonged to the minorities in northwest China and was popular in the Northern Dynasties, the Sui Dynasty and the Tang Dynasty.

Tang Dynasty( A.D.618-907)

Unearthed at Luoyang, Henan

Groom height: 63cm

Sancai is a kind of lead-glazed pottery fired at low temperature. It is glazed with such colors as yellow, white, green, brown and blue, etc. The Sancai products of the Tang Dynasty are mostly human figures, horses and camels. The groom leading the horse wears a tall hat and a robe with lapels. These foreign articles of clothing and his deep-set eyes and prominent nose suggests that he is not of Han Chinese ethnic stock.

The warrior figurine wearing armor stands on a stand, and it is glazed with such colors yellow, green and white.

Yuan Dynasty A.D.1271-1368

Unearthed at Jiaozuo, Henan

Height: 40cm

The dancer who wears lotus leaf-shaped hat is dancing while walking. A group of carved bricks were unearthed in 1973 from Jiaozuo city, Henan province . The designs on this group of carved bricks vividly portrays the grand occasion of folk dancing in the Yuan Dynasty. The brick is one of them.
